Pinterest In The Classroom

Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that you can use to find ideas for all your projects and interests.  This tool can be downloaded as an app or can be used on any computer on the web.  Pinterest allows the user to create different "boards" and on these boards you can "pin" things that have something in common.  For example, you can create a board all about apartment decorations or food recipes!  These "pins" are actually connected to a website that you can then go to and browse.

Pinterest is a great way for teachers to get ideas for projects!  So many teachers have pinned their projects and lesson plans to Pinterest to share with the rest of us!  You can come here to get multiple ideas from literature projects to science projects and if you think your project is something others would like to use in their own classroom then you can create a pin for it as well!

In my opinion, Pinterest is something every teacher should have at their disposal.  You never know what you might find!

I recently did a project on "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".  Just this one book had so many pins on it!  I had my students create a "Wanted" poster in order to show characteristics of Goldilocks and events of the story.  Below you can find a link to my lesson plan and the steps to completing this project!

First the students read the book on an iPad using this app.

Next the students began filling out their "Wanted" poster by drawing a picture of Goldilocks.

Second the students filled out this information.  These are key details of Goldilocks and the story.

Lastly the students draw a picture of where Goldilocks was last seen; the three bears house!

This will be their completed project!

My hope is that this project will help students pay attention to key characteristics of characters and details in the stories that they read from now on!
